Alacati, Turkey
Choosing Alacati in Turkey for your summer 2021 windsurfing holiday offers beautiful views of the magnificent Aegean coastline characterized by rugged cliffs, tiny coves and sandy beaches, lapped by clear blue water. Just one hour from Izmir airport, lies the 10 sq km, Alacati Bay. Nestling between fields of aniseed and sesame, vineyards and hills dotted with fig and gum trees, it is a very special location. Not without reason it is known as ‘the St Tropez of Turkey'. One feature completes the view… wind turbines on the brow of a nearby hill giving a dramatic anticipation of the wind!
Sailing Spot and Conditions
Windsurf conditions in Alacati Bay are flat water and slalom with a sheltered area for beginners. The Bay is approximately 500m long by 400m wide with a shallow sailing area giving way to the open seas to the south. The constant wind and absolutely flat water create perfect conditions for windsurfers, as well as an excellent learning and practicing environment. Usually moderate in the morning and increasing during the day. In spring and autumn the dominating southerly ‘Poiras' wind blows sideshore from the right. At this time, nice small waves break in the bay. Even on days with strong wind, beginners and intermediates can enjoy moderate wind conditions in the morning and afternoon.
Culture and Activities
This cosmopolitan region attracts holiday makers both from Europe and Istanbul. Nearby Alacati town, with it's narrow cobbled streets and market stalls, has boutique hotels, bars and restaurants. The area has many vineyards and olive groves and produces fanatasic wines, olive oil and cheese all available in the colourful local markets. Rich in ancient, archeological sites such as Ephesus, Pergamon and Pamukkale we recommend you hire a car or take a local tour to fully explore. A trip to the thermal springs will ease any aches and pains or relax in a traditional Hamman baths.
