Brazil - Icaraizinho, Brazil & Americas
Sportif Travel offer off the beaten track windsurf and kitesurf holidays to the real Brazil. Icaraizinho offers less challenging windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions than Jericoacoara and is suitable for beginners, freestylers and kiters alike. Just over 2 hours from Fortaleza airport, you can take in the huge flat water and gentle swell and unwind. It is an outstanding windsurfing location and also a great place to completely unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Start here then head to Jeri to party party!
Sailing Spot and Conditions
Similar to Jericoacoara, the bay in Icaraizinho is curved and in many ways the windsurfing features resemble the ones of Jericoacoara (Jeri) but offer a wider range of conditions. Icarazinho offers slightly less strong wind conditions then Jeri with normally 4.7 – 5.3 sails during the high season which starts in July/August throught to December; although the wind continues right through to February. There are four different sailing areas. Inside the bay there is sheltered flat water, ideal for beginners, freestylers and kiters. Further out, the main windsurfing area has side/side on wind and gentle waves ideal for improvers and intermediates. At the eastern tip of the bay there is a reef that generates perfect jumping ramps and easy wave riding. The kite zone is downwind from the centre and has a huge flat water area with a smooth shorebreak. This is also the perfect spot for windsurfing freeriding. Icaraizinho offer the consistent trade winds of north east Brazil and sheltered flat water for slalom, kiters and beginners, plus a point break for wave enthusiasts.
Culture and Activities
There are two main features that are missing from Icaraizinho: no roads along with no mobile phone coverage! What you will find is a stunning beach, a slow paced fishing community, sunny weather and lots of wind. Being so close to Jeri allows it to benefit from the same strong trade winds that make Jeri so famous for wind reliability. The town already offers a minimal tourist infrastructure with very few Pousada - just as Jeri was when Club Ventos opened its doors to its first windsurfers. This new resort brings the exiting possibility of combining two windsurfing paradises in the same holiday as Icaraizinho is only a half day buggy trip to the windy mecca of Jericoacoara.
