Tenerife offers windsurfing holidays in the Canary Islands with clean, consistent, planing winds for intermediate and above windsurfers. The main windsurf venue is El Medano, 15 minutes from the airport. This small resort is situated on sandy a series of sandy bays with more sheltered conditions inshore and clean winds further out to sea. The windsurf centre provides a choice of the latest equipment from a wide variety of manufacturers, which you can to test out. There is a choice of hotel and self catering apartment accommodation, a short walk to the windsurf beach and centre, offering excellent value.
Sailing Spot and Conditions
El Medano is a warm year-round location, a short flight away, with clean consistent planing winds and three sailing areas offering diverse conditions. There are two sailing venues: South Bay is ideal for intermediates and above and the challenging North Bay, with world class conditions, for experts with up to mast high waves on strong days. The North East trade winds are deflected by Teide's crater wall and accelerated by strong thermal currents. This, combined with the Atlantic rollers, provide wave sailing at its best.
Culture and Activities
The volcanic peak of Mount Teide dominates Tenerife, the largest island amongst the Canaries. The north has a rocky coastline and lush vegetation. Totally different, the south has a better sunshine record and endearing lunar landscape with volcanic, sandy beaches. There is plenty to do in Tenerife including visiting the Mount Teide National Park, Loro Park Zoo, whale and dolphin watch boat trips as well as walking, hiking or cycling tours. The restaurants have an excellent reputation with locals and visitors alike, catering for all palettes and reflecting the town's cosmopolitan nature. The nightlife runs at a much gentler pace than at Playas des Americas, which is approximately 30 minutes away by road for those that want to hit the clubs.
