Psalidi in the Greek Islands offers excellent windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP) conditions for your 2021 watersports holiday to Greece.
Situated on the north east coast, Psalidi offers sensational windsurfing or kitesurfing for beginners to slalom blasting for intermediates to advanced, with some offshore with swell conditions on certain days. Choose from all inclusive luxury hotels or budget self catering accommodation, with easy access to the island capital is Kos Town. It is a place of architectural beauty, abundant greenery, tree lined avenues and pretty flower filled squares. You will find the hub of island life here, under a shady palm, in one of the many restaurants, bars and shops. .
Sailing Spot and Conditions
Only 7km south east from Kos town is the quieter resort of Psalidi. From here you windsurf or kitesurf with separate centres easily accessible by local shuttle bus. The ‘Meltemi' wind blows consistently in the summer from the north/northwest, delivery a cross shore wind from the left. The average strength is force 4-6 with some days up to 7-8 in July and August. The sheltered launch is great for beginners and kids. Once past the slight shore break, this affords sensational slalom blasting with swell up to 1m on the outside. A safe sailing area with lots of space on the water and dedicated Baywatch and rescue service. As well as stunning views whilst sailing, the proximity of Turkey and Kos create a wind funnel system giving stronger winds than other spots on the island. The Centre, situated on the sand/shingle beach, is friendly and well organized, having a range of over 100 Fanatic boards and 150 rigs and offers tuition at all levels. Psalidi is often thought to be the domain of intermediate and advanced sailors, however the centre has excellent instructors and schedules lessons for beginners in the early moring before the wind strength increases too much. Also there is a wind shadow in one part of the beach which is suitable for those less confident. The family friendly centre welcomes children with kids lesson in the summer.
Culture and Activities
The island and nearby Kos town offers a wealth of history, home to Hippocrates history dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries BC and the Trojan wars. You can visit the ancient ruins around Kos town and the ampitheatre in the centre of Kos which still hosts cultural, arts and music festivals throughout the summers. In Psalidi as well as windsurfing and kitesurfing you can also find sailing, waterskiing, jet ski, wakeboarding, diving, go carts and great trekking routes. Mountain biking and walking are also very popular here. Dedicated cycle lanes are all over the Island and guided walks take place in the hills of Psalidi. Luxury spa hotels provide a superb beach holiday. Also available on the island are horseriding, catamaran sailing and organized boat and fishing trips from Kos Town main marina. Kos Town has a mixture of ancient Viennese buildings and old town section with cobbled streets and central courtyards with restaurants offering outdoor tables. Wander through the back streets and you discover a huge choice of bars and souvenir shops. It's perfect to visit in the day time or at night after dinner. It's only after 11am and closer to the marina that certain areas and clubs really start to get lively.
