Turkey's Aegean coastline is truly magnificent, rugged cliffs, tiny coves and long sandy beaches, lapped by clear blue water, with bright sunshine cooled by the Meltemi wind. On the western shore, just one hour from Izmir airport, lies the 10sq km, Alacati Bay. Nestling between fields of aniseed and sesame, vineyards and hills dotted with fig and gum trees, Alacati is a very special location. Apart from a few hotels, the shoreline is devoid of major tourist development, as the bay is within a protected area. One feature completes the view… wind turbines on the brow of a nearby hill giving a dramatic anticipation of the wind!

For windsurfing, Alacati Bay offers flat water and slalom with a sheltered area for beginners. The Bay is 500m long by 400m wide with a shallow sailing area giving way to the open seas to the south. The constant wind and absolutely flat water create perfect conditions for windsurfers, as well as an excellent learning and practicing environment. Usually moderate in the morning and increasing during the day. In spring and autumn the dominating southerly ‘Poiras' wind blows sideshore from the right. At this time, nice small waves break in the bay. Even on days with strong wind, beginners and intermediates can enjoy moderate wind conditions in the morning and afternoon.

For kitesurfing, we recommend Gokova. The kitesurf area is a 3km bay surrounding by pine forests and natural sandy beach. The bay has a sandy bottom and there is plenty of space even at the height of the season. The Gökova kitesurf beach is 3km long with shallow water extending for around 150m, a sandy bottom and plenty of space, even in high season. Further out towards the open sea, there are small waves. For both resorts the wind begins to blow in late April/early May until end of September/beginning of October.
