St Martin, Caribbean

St Martin offers windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing holidays with a lagoon which is perfect for beginners, intermediate freeriders, freestylers and wave freaks. St Martin is a small Caribbean island divided into a French side and a Dutch side. The island offers nature, elegance, comfort, luxury, gourmet cuisine, vibrant nightlife and duty free shopping. St Martin boasts 37 glorious beaches of white sand and turquoise waters where an abundance of water sports can be enjoyed. St. Martin is a fascinating melting pot of people and influences from over 70 different nations - a really Cosmopolitan atmosphere with a Caribbean twist.

Sailing Spot and Conditions
Gallion Bay on the eastern, French side of the island, sits in the heart of a protected natural reserve and no motor boats or jet skis are allowed, unlike Orient Bay. It is a truly peaceful location and voted one of the best and safest beaches on the island. The sailing area is a 1km wide sandy lagoon with some standing areas and no current, protected by an outer reef about 400m from the shore. The water in the lagoon is warm all year long, flat and the spot is suitable for beginners, intermediate freeriders, freestylers and wave freaks - a small Mauritius in the Caribbean! The reef offers great wave riding conditions with breaking waves between 1 to 3m in the right conditions.  There are almost constant trade winds blowing side onshore from the left November to March (usually 18-25 knots) and side onshore from the right June to September (usually 16-20 knots). You'll be able to improve on both tacks, with breaking waves on the outer reef which is also perfect for surfing. September, October and November are well know for the quality of the waves and surf.

Culture and Activities
St Martin offers a wide variety of sports activities: windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP, surfing, scuba diving, kayak tours, superb deep sea fishing and world class sailing in warm waters around 27C year round. You an take out a fishing charter for some deep sea fishing or head to Orient Bay to take out jet skis or enjoy a range of motorized water sports. On land there is still more to do including all terrain off road guided tours, mountain or quad biking, trekking, hiking horse riding, tennis and golf. Explore the protected, natural reserves with mangroves and beautiful and over 30 white sand beaches, clear, turquoise waters and palm trees swaying. For those that like shopping this is a duty free island. Luxury items are offered at discounted prices. Finally, as you would expect from a French island, cuisine is all important with fine gourmet restaurants to Carribbean style BBQ from roadside shacks.
