Langebaan Windsurf and Kitesurf Centre - South Africa - Langebaan, Africa
Situated on South Africa’s west coast, Langebaan offers the unique waters of the lagoon and Saldanha Bay for windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing and stand up paddle boarding. The warm, safe waters allow watersport enthusiasts access to a range of conditions, breath-taking views and some of the best conditions in the world for flat water slalom, freestyle and wave sailing opportunities at certain times.
Open
The centre is open from the beginning of August to the end of April, which is the main sailing season in Langebaan.
Location
The centre is located on the shores of the Langebaan lagoon, which is one hour’s drive north of Cape Town on the West Coast of South Africa. Approximately a 20km long x 1.5km wide lagoon, offers exceptional flat water windsurfing and great kitesurfing for beginners through to advanced. Within 15 minutes drive, Langebaan has some incredible wave sailing with the lagoons strong and steady winds. The wind direction is side shore with wind from October to March around 20-25 days averaging 20 knots. From November through February some days can get up to 35 knots.
Facilities
The centre has a grass space to rig on as well as a place to sunbathe out of the wind. There is a great look out platform/ bar with views of the lagoon and all the action. The centre is a family friendly place to enjoy water sports as well as the comfort of a well established infrastructure with WC, showers, changing rooms, a shop and bar.
Activities
The centre is located near the mouth of Langebaan lagoon which allows you to be able to surf and body board in front of the centre. This is a unique position as the waves are not too powerful and have little or no currents. This location is therefore an ideal place for children and adults to learn how to surf or body board. The lagoon and surrounding waters offer incredible kayaking and stand up paddle boarding experiences. The lagoon is home to many flamingos, penguins, oyster catchers, whales, dolphins plus home to many of southern Africa’s bird life. The waters of the lagoon are not open to the extreme elements, so paddling on the lagoon is easy, fun and safe. Other activities available in Langebaan include visiting the national park, horse rides, sky diving and fishing.
Kit Range
The centre offers rental of the latest Tabou windsurf boards and Gaastra and Vadal sails, all rigged and ready for use. There is also windsurfing and kitesurfing lessons, rentals of kite surfing equipment for independent kitesurfers, wetsuits and bouyancy aids available. Surf boards, body boards, stand up paddle boards and kayaks are also available to rent. The equipment is maintained in top condition throughout the season and the centres fully stocked retail store has the latest in windsurfing accessories and clothing and a good selection of ex rental equipment to purchase.
Please Note: You may be required to pay a damage waiver fee, locally at the centre, or leave a credit card deposit against potential damage, before rental equipment can be taken.
