windsurfing holidays in Marsa Alam - Red Sea
Around 1 hour from the new airport at Marsa Alam, this superb untouched area has to be seen to be believed. Set among the Wadi Gamal National Park it is a diving & snorkelling paradise.
It is a great windsurfing spot with constant sideshore wind from the left. A lagoon with shallow water offers ideal conditions for windsurfing beginner courses. Intermediates and experts will also enjoy the clean, consistent winds and perfect slalom area. With the lack of crowds and space, it's been described as being like ‘Dahab 20 years ago'. This is a fantastic place to windsurf for sailors of all levels.
Sailing Spot & Conditions

The launching area is in a shallow, flat water lagoon. As soon as you sail out of this lagoon, moderate waves invite you to jump and play. The height of the waves depends upon the wind strength, but they are always easy to control and safe. On your way back to the lagoon you can really plane through all manoeuvres. The conditions offer a unique mix of shallow water and waves further out. In Marsa Alam, the wind blows particularly steadily and consistently and does not turn, thus maximizing the effective wind hours you can spend on your board.
Culture & Activities
The sailing is off the coast of the Wadi Gamal National Park and is the gateway to the pristine, uncrowded diving and snorkelling of the southern Red Sea. The PADI dive centre based at the Hotel Shams Alam offers a range of dive packages, snorkelling and courses. Boat and snorkelling trips to Gamal island are available.
The surrounding landscape can be explore with a jeep safari or visit to the local village, Salatin. Further afield trips are available to visit Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and Aswan Dam.
There is no local nightlife but the hotel has several bars and restaurant and evening entertainment.
