Antigua Windsurf & Kitesurfing - Antigua, Caribbean
Antigua, Caribbean guide to the Windsurf & Kitesurf Sailing Spots & Conditions
Antigua is situated in the middle of the Leeward Islands where the North East trades produce steady winds from November, with the best sailing conditions from December through to July. The almost consistent side / on -shore winds makes Antigua a safe environment for windsurfers and kiters with the assistance of our specialist windsurfing and kitesurfing services on the spot providing local knowledge on when and where's best to kite.
Jabberwock Bay
The best sailing area is at Jabberwock Bay, a beautiful National Park on the north coast. Conditions are suitable for beginners to advanced windsurfers. The best time is December to July consistent, side on-shore winds averaging 12-18 knots, making this the safest place for windsurfing in Antigua. The launch is from a large sandy beach with immediate shallow area shelving to deeper water. Shore break is none to slight and water conditions flat with some wind chop in strong wind conditions.
As permanent buildings are prohibited, Windsurf Antigua provide a mobile service with equipment rigged and ready for sailing from the beach.
Dutchmans Bay
Dutchmans Bay offers good sailing. This is where the locals sail with a wide, beautiful, palm fringed sandy beach and crystal clear, flat water protected by the offshore reef. If you stay at Dutchmans Bay Cottages, you can keep your boards there and launch when you want.
Kiting Area
For kiting, an IKO accredited centre is based in Jabberwock Bay and offers instruction in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. Rental is available once the centre have assessed that you are at the required level of competency. The wind direction is usually side on offering conditions suitable for all levels with bump and jump. With a few flat water areas to choose from it is ideal to practice wakestyle tricks on a 60 foot A – frame slider and kicker and a great place to check out the local kiters.
