Morocco - A Freeride and Wave Oasis in the Sahara Desert
This adventure is aimed at intermediate freeriders and beginner/intermediate kite wave riders. You should be at least able to: ride upwind, basic transitions, self launch/land, set up and be able to self rescue. You will also need to have valid 3rd party kitesurf insurance. If you need assistance with this, contact us for assistance. Strictly limited to max of 10 people, so be quick! This really is an adventure you will never forget!
Accommodation is at the amazing Ocean Vagabond site which is situated at the top of Dakhla lagoon. The rooms are tucked away amongst the sand dunes of the Sahara and all have views down to the water. During high tide the water comes right up just below the bar/restaurant area while at low tide there is a small walk, however, low tide is when we will be making use of the wave spot Oum Laboiur, a short drive away, unless of course you prefer to stay and ride perfect flat warm water?
What you get
Ocean Vagabond basic bungalow on a 3 share basis, (they were built for 3 and have 3 beds in at all times so it’s not a squeeze) with shared bathroom and showers. 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner incl. water). 5 days coaching from Lee Harvey. Also included are transfers, flights, 1 night at the Atlas Hotel in Casablanca with excursion into Casablanca old town on the way to Dakhal. Demo use of 2012 North Surfboards.
Coaching
The coaching will be hands on and tailored to the groups needs, which will be ascrtained on the morning of day 1. Areas to be covered include flat water riding in the lagoon, all the BKSA intermediate levels, more advanced tricks such as back/front rols, kite loops, board offs etc and strapless surfboard freestyle.
The wave spot is a right hand point break, typically in the waist to head hight size. Perfect, peeling waves with a nice safe beach downwind. The ideal environment to make your first bottom turns or push yourself to the next level!
A typical day would be - 2 hours freeride coaching on the lagoon, followed by lucnh where we will have video feedback. After lunch you will move to the waves for 2 hours coaching, all captured on video for feedback when returning to the centre. Depending on individual requirements this can be adapted to suit different conditions and objectives withing the group. On the rate occasion of a no wind day, a surf lesson or other activities will be organised.
Kit
Dakhla is wind most of the time, so small kites (5-9) will probably be all you need but we will chekck the forcast and take advice from the centre on the spot a couple of days beforehand to be able to advise what's best to take if bringing your own kit. You may also want a full wetsuit or shortie but these are available at the centre if you do not wish to bring your own. When the wind is 30mph is can be a little chilly kiting for up to 4 hours. If you are already into waves, then bring your own wave board. If you are a wave beginner and want to give it a go, Lee with have 4 North boards available to try out. The Skyriders centre also has the lastest North kit available to rent including surfboards.
Casablanca
On way out to Dakhla, there will be an excursion to Casablanca (including in the cost) and onthe way back an overnight stop at the Atlas hotel because of the flight connections.
