windsurfing holidays in Samos - Kokkari
Set off the south west coast of Turkey is Samos, known as the "Emerald of the Aegean". As soon as you arrive you will know why. Mountainous landscapes covered with ancient, green forests, vineyards and olive groves lead down to sparkling seas of blues and greens. At only 27 long by 8 miles wide exploring is easy. Historical sites, pretty hilltop villages and vineyards. Sample the fresh produce, not forgetting the traditional sweet Muscat wine. Still relatively undeveloped, visitors are welcomed with warm Greek hospitality. Kokkari is a picture perfect fishing village on the northern coast. All facilities are close to hand - car rental, internet, cash dispensers, shops, traditional home cooking tavernas and a waterfront promenade where you can sit and sip cocktails while the world goes.
Sailing Spot & Conditions
Kokkari is situated on a wide bay and an ideal spot for both windsurfing and learning to windsurf. Sailing on the crystal clear blue waters with a mountainous backdrop will take your breath away. The Meltemi blows side shore from the left here creating great freeride conditions. The local mountainous landscape generates a regular afternoon thermal.

A shallow, wind protected area near the centre allows beginners a safe start with the cross on-shore wind. The further out the stronger the wind with increased windchop and sometimes generating ramps up to 2m on the outside.
Culture
This island of Samos has a varied history dating back to prehistoric times and over the centuries the various factions have left their mark. Arguably its most famous son was Pythagoras of mathematical renown. It's typically Greek red-roofed, whitewashed houses and hotels nestle into the slope of the hillside overlooking the Aegean sea. Exceptionally green with its forests, citrus groves and vineyards producing the local sweet Muscat wine, it is an Island to explore and enjoy.
