windsurfing holidays in Safaga - Egypt
Safaga is a small, peaceful and informal resort on the northern edge of a perfectly crescent shaped sandy bay, sweeping some five miles across crystal clear water.
Along the length of the attractive beach in Safaga are various hotels, with the Hotel Shams located on the most windward side of the bay, offering an easy blast to Tobias Island first thing in the morning, when the wind is blowing cross offshore.
Port Safaga is a very small town dominated by the nearby busy trading port. The nearest major town is Hurghada approximately half an hour away by taxi, or for something much more scenic travel west through the low range of mountains and across the Sahara to the ancient town of Luxor to experience some of Egypt’s fantastic history.
Sailing Spot & Conditions

Safaga is perfectly suitable for all skill levels. Tuition takes place in a shallow water area with ideal conditions for practising water starts. The sheltered beginner's lagoon offers very flat water & gentle wind. The launch is directly in front of the centre with access to ideal slalom, freeride and freestyle conditions.

The side-offshore wind in the mornings favour an excursion to Toubia Island, a sandy island surround by turquoise water only 3.5km away.
Afternoons offer steady sideshore wind and the stronger it blows the longer it stays. The kitesurfing spot is about 300 meters downwind with it's own dedicated, new Skyriders centre. Windsurfing and kitesurfing areas are separate.

Culture & Activities
Located about 30 miles south of Hurghada, it offers not only numerous diving bases but is arguably one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots. Spacious sandy beaches extend around the deep sea port of Safaga, with the Hotel Shams Safaga and Imperial Shams at the best location: A perfectly crescent shaped sandy bay, sweeping some five miles across crystal clear waters.
From here you can travel west through the low range of mountains and across the Sahara to the ancient town of Luxor and the Valley of the Kings to experience some of Egypt's ancient history. The contrast between the azure and turquoise colours of the ocean and desert landscape make this area an impressive holiday setting.
