Positioned almost 400 miles north-east of Mauritius, Rodrigues emerges from the Indian Ocean from within a vast, emerald-blue lagoon. This tiny, undiscovered island, just 11 miles by 5 miles, has an unspoilt charm and beauty rarely seen. Dramatic rock strewn mountains and a Caribbean style atmosphere make it totally different from the sophistication of Mauritius. The island is ringed by the coral lagoon that influences the whole nature of Rodrigues and its truly Creole inhabitants. From the moment you arrive you understand why this place is so special; the warmth and freshness of the trade winds, the friendliness of the people and the simplicity in the way they live. It feels as though time and the modern world have passed this secret hideaway by.

Sailing Spot & Conditions

Tucked away at the end of the south-east coast road, is the tiny village of Mourouk which borders the edge of the lagoon. Pure white sand stretches alongside the warm, crystal clear water. This really is a watersports paradise, with constant cross-shore winds, flat warm water, dive spots that have never been seen and water playground that goes on forever. The huge lagoon, mostly waist deep, offers space for training, freestyle & speed sailing. The quality of the conditions is what makes this place special. The easterly trade winds start around 3-4 beaufort in the morning building to force 5-6/7 in the afternoon during the peak months. With near world record speeds recorded here, this really is somewhere very special.
