windsurf, kitesurf, surfing & activity holidays in Lanzarote
Lanzarote is situated 120km off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. This beautiful, volcanic island was formed millions of years ago and as a result is full of amazing, lunar-type landscapes and strange rock formations. Protected by UNESCO, it is a World Biosphere Reserve for its careful tourist development whilst conserving the islands natural environment. Multi-talented artist Cesar Manrique was an influencing architect and his work can be seen all over the island where many artists have settled for the unique light. Costa Teguise in the north east, is a lively tourist resort but with no high rise buildings. Whitewashed houses with green shutters are home to a superb choice of restaurants and bars all within walking distance. It's golden sandy beaches, year round sun and easily accessible sailing and surfing make it a great choice with something for everyone.
Sailing Spot & Conditions
You'll find the spot 'Las Cucharas' on the east coast at Costa Teguise , where the trade winds blow almost side shore from the left. A protected bay makes the place secure and ideal for beginners and trainings for advanced surfers. Outside the bay there is a reef where wavefreaks and freeriders will have a lot of fun. The conditions are fantastic which is why the PWA hold a World Cup freestyle event here for many years now.

The steady trade winds blow side/side off shore from the left and are most consistent during the summer (April-September), blowing regularly from 4-6 Bft. During the winter the wind is more changeable and can vary in speed depending on the path taken by the depressions. The swell comes in at this time and transforms the various spots around the island. The bay is sheltered so ideal for beginners.
Outside the bay there is flat water and a reef delivering rolling swells from 0.5-3m. With plenty of space to exit safely this is an ideal for improving jumping and wave riding.
Lanzarote offers a great holiday environ with the unique volcanic landscapes of the Fire Mountains, the wine area of La Geria or beautiful sand beach of Famara. Coupled with access to nearby nightlife, choice of bars and restaurants everything is close by.
