Dahab lies on the Sinai Peninsular, located on the west coast of the Gulf of Aqaba, between Nuweiba and Sharm el Sheikh.

From Dahab it is possible to see across the gulf to the distant shores of Saudi Arabia. The mountainous interior of the Sinai rises steeply from the coast of the Red Sea, leaving only a narrow strip of land between mountains and water. It is this terrain which ensures the thermal air streams funnel down between the naturally eroded hills and valleys, producing the famous year round winds. With a relatively short flight and fifty minutes transfer to your hotel, it is possible to enjoy the magical conditions, the day you arrive.

Sailing Spot & Conditions

Dahab offers one of the widest variety of windsurfing conditions to be found anywhere. The windsurfing is spread over four areas.

Area 1 The Lagoon  Situated right in front of the Hotels and is one of the most perfect places for novices as well as practising waterstarts and carve gybes. With shallow water, this wide bay is protected by a long sand spit making it super safe and perfect for learning and improving.

Area 2 The Speed Track  This area is outside the sand spit and benefits from the wind accelerating over the spit. Conditions on the track vary.  At the top the flat water allows fast gybing and freestyle maneouvers. The main speed drag runs down the edge of the sand spit with the most beautiful turquoise water.   

Area 3  Kamakaze  Aptly named because of the 2-3m swell that runs down the Gulf of Aquaba at its peak. This area is beyond the reef at the top of the Speed Track and perfect for high jumps.

Area 4 The Meridien 1km downwind of the main lagoon is the narrow launch area in front of the Meridien Hotel.  Clean side shore winds and slight windchop which turns into good wave sailing conditions. Ideal for good intermediate+ with waterstart.

Area 5 Bay View Hotel 3km downwind of the main lagoon at the new Harry Nass centre. This is the only kitesurfing location in Dahab. Consistent, cross shore from left, gentle chop and some waves. Ideal for good intermediate to advanced level.

Kitesurfing in main Dahab Bay is prohibited. However, there is a lagoon area especially marked for kitesurfing where beginners can receive instruction and make their first rides in shallow, safe conditions. There is not restriction to kitesurfing at the Bay View Hotel location which is 3km downwind from the lagoon.

Culture & Activities

The local village of Masbat, and its untidy neighbour Assala are both just a short taxi ride away from the hotels. Both are a small, colourful villages, a meeting point for travellers with very ethnic and hippy atmosphere.

Masbat has a strong Bedouin influence, tiny tea houses nestle alongside traditional bazaars, corner shops and bars. There are a good choice of restaurants built on stilts at the waters edge. Street traders mingle with simple traditionally built accommodation. All this in very stark contrast to the sophistication of the nearby resort hotels. Traders will always ply their goods but the Egyptians have such charming manners that is one of the few countries where it becomes a pleasure to shop.

A great range of excursions and activities are available including world class diving and boat & snorkelling trips with the famous free dive location 'Blue Hole' a must.  Organised trips include Bedouin dinners, camel safaris or sunrise hiking tours to Mount Moses and St Catherine's monastery.
