Sixty miles off the west coast of Africa lies Fuerteventura: Aptly named, the literal translation of ‘fuerte' being ‘strong' and ‘ventura' describing the ‘accelerated winds'. Although the second largest of the Canary Islands, it is the least populated. The main tourist areas are Corralejo in the north and Costa Calma & Morro Jable in the south.  The rest of the island is relatively isolated with small villages of whitewashed houses and windmills found dotted along the roadways. The quality of both wind and sea are best in the summer, when the Trade winds blow, with sailing conditions in winter very reliable.

CORRALEJO

Located on the northern tip of the island, Corralejo has grown from an old traditional fishing village to a fully fledged holiday resort. A huge range of activities are available from  mountain biking and diving to waterparks and crazy golf. The town is buzzing with many bars & restaurants to suit all tastes and budget. With temperatures rarely falling below 20°, extremely reliable winter sailing conditions and less than 4 hours flying time, it's a great out of season destination too.

Sailing Spot & Conditions

Corralejo has a number of locations to suit every level. The main sailing is the huge, golden sand Flag beach just 10 minutes outside town, set on the edge of the Las Dunas National Park with its constantly moving white dunes. A 400m long bay protected by reefs at both ends, offers flat water on the inside, waves to practice on and good jumping in the right conditions. The straits in between Correlejo and Los Lobos offer long downwind runs. This is a great all round spot with waves in the winter and flat water slalom and freestyle sailing in the summer months.
