Run By : Peter Hart Windsurfing Clinics

The 2024 Windsurfing Masterclass clinic from  Peter Hart, to the Greek Island of Rhodes.

Join Peter on his Greek Islands Masterclass coaching holiday and improve your general skills with one of the very best UK windsurfing pro coaches.

The venue is the fantastic windsurfing resort of Ialyssos in Northern Rhodes. There are two Pro Centre right on the spot, on the beach in front of the very comfortable hotel coupled with excellent sailing conditions. Everything is provided for the perfect mix of holiday and a week's windsurfing.

Course Details
‘General skills’ means “whatever it takes to make you a better windsurfer.” It may be learning new skills such as fast tacks, carve gybes, duck gybes or freestyle, or just polishing and tweaking what you can already do. Every windsurfer benefits from earlier planing, more speed and faster waterstarts.

"These are the conclusions I’ve reached after 20 years of running clinics." says Peter. "Everyone wants to become a better windsurfer. Everyone wants to have a good time doing it. On a PH clinic we never lose sight of the fact that this is your holiday"

One to One Coaching
Peter's approach is that people learn in different ways. Here's his view in his own words:
"Some for example like to intellectualise the moves, get the mechanics sorted out in their head and on the simulator before attacking it in stages. Others just like to look and learn – watch a demonstration and then try to copy it – ‘mirror’ learning as it’s called. Some are obsessive about getting it right and want to be pushed all the way. Others prefer to stay within their comfort zone and just ease gently up the ladder. What this means is that although we laugh, play and sail as a group, as much as I can I try to keep the coaching one to one, because everyone is different!"

So how does it work?
Peter works with you each day starting with a personal chat on your goals for the week. then he watch how you get on the first day and work with you on technique to get you there without drilling. The course content for the day depends on the local conditions, energy levels and how everyone feels.

Morning Sessions
A typical day would start in the morning on the land with individual sessions on the simulator to sort out any technique glitches spotted on video the night before. On the water the first session is quite structures - focussing on a certain move with series of ins and outs followed by immediate feedback. This is easily done in shallow water areas where you can stand up in waist deep water, chat about the move and take a breather. Peter will then sail with you, following you in one to one sessions and giving you tips as you go.

Afternoon Sessions
After an hour or two for lunch relaxing, there's a little theory, discussing equipment and set ups or running through a new maneouvre on the simulator. If the wind, energy and  enthusiasm are still there, then you can head out on the water for a late afternoon session with Peter available and sailing with you on a more relaxed basis.

Video Analysis
Peter finds video an invaluable tool to capture your moves. There will be a couple of sessions during the day with analysis early evening over a cocktail of your choice! It's always lighthearted and enjoyable social session.

Typical Course Level
Early Intermediates to Advanced
The sailing area suits all windsurfers so the required standard is only planing in the harness.

The Conditions
The wind is sideshore and blows right into the beach so it's ideal for practising and teaching.

Equipment
There are 2 Pro Centres either side of the hotel, one F2, one JP, both excellent.

Here's why Peter chose Ialyssos as one of his Masterclass locations:

"For me clinics must be more holiday and less boot camp. The wind and sailing are crucial but it's also essential to have pleasant surroundings offering a variety of alcohols and a comfortable place where you can sit and exaggerate about the day's events! So I was delighted when two separate lots of highly discerning, windy buddies returned from trips last year to Iallysos in the north of Rhodes declaring it to be one of the best they've ever had. They said it ticked more boxes that they had boxes to tick.

► Sailed every day on sails ranging from 7.5 down to 5:
► Solid side-shore wind right to the beach, ideal for practising moves;
► Excellent and plentiful JP kit from the Pro Centre right next to the hotel:
► Great hotel where non-windy partners were delirious with joy:
► Delightful town.
